Preparation is the first ceremony. Integration is where transformation becomes part of daily life.

Welcome to Plantas Sagradas

Healing begins with understanding the person, not selecting the medicine.

At Plantas Sagradas, we believe sacred medicines are not the destination.

They are invitations into a larger journey of preparation, transformation, integration, and participation.

Every retreat is thoughtfully curated around the individual because meaningful healing is shaped not by the intensity of an experience, but by the life it makes possible.

Located in Rosarito, Mexico, we create opportunities for individuals to step away from the demands of everyday life and engage in immersive retreat experiences that support healing, self-exploration, and meaningful growth within a foundation of safety, integrity, and community.

About Plantas Sagradas

Plantas Sagradas was born from a deeply personal journey.

For much of my life, I lived with opioid dependence. Like many others, I searched for relief in ways that gradually became their own source of suffering. Recovery was not a single event, but a long and often difficult process of rebuilding my life, one step at a time.

In the spring of 2019, after years of searching for something that could help me move beyond survival and into genuine healing, I began researching ibogaine. What I discovered was both hopeful and unsettling. While I found extraordinary stories of transformation, I also encountered tremendous variability in the way clinics approached safety, preparation, and participant care. It took months of research, countless phone calls, and careful discernment before I found a retreat where I felt I could place my trust.

That search eventually led me to an Ibogaine treatment center in Baja California, Mexico.

My experience there became one of several pivotal chapters in a much larger journey that would continue through work with traditional medicines in Peru, Europe, and Mexico. Alongside these experiences, I continued developing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, deepening my understanding of trauma, addiction, mental health, and the remarkable capacity of human beings to heal when given the right conditions.

Over time, one realization became increasingly clear.

The medicines were never the destination.

They were invitations.

The most meaningful transformations did not occur during ceremonies alone. They unfolded afterward, through preparation, reflection, psychotherapy, relationships, community, and the ongoing work of integrating profound experiences into ordinary life.

That realization became the foundation for Plantas Sagradas.

Together with Anna Canchola, we created Plantas Sagradas to reflect the retreat we wished had existed when I first began searching in 2019, one grounded in medical safety, thoughtful preparation, individualized care, physician oversight, and comprehensive integration. Our goal has never been to offer extraordinary ceremonies for their own sake. It is to create the conditions in which meaningful experiences can become lasting transformation.

Today, every retreat we offer is guided by a simple belief:

Healing begins with understanding the person, not selecting the medicine.

Each individual arrives with a unique history, different intentions, and their own path toward wholeness. Rather than fitting people into predetermined programs, we thoughtfully curate each retreat experience according to the individual's needs, readiness, and capacity for integration.

At Plantas Sagradas, we believe sacred medicines are not what heal us. They illuminate what has always been possible and remind us that we are the medicine. The real work begins in the life that follows.

Our Offerings -

Ibogaine

Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive compound derived from the root bark of Tabernanthe iboga, a shrub native to Central West Africa. For generations, the iboga plant has been used within the spiritual and healing traditions of the Bwiti people of Gabon, Cameroon, and surrounding regions, where it serves as a sacrament for initiation, healing, community connection, and spiritual development.

Within Bwiti traditions, iboga is not viewed merely as a substance, but as a teacher, a guide, and a bridge between the individual, their ancestors, and the larger web of life. While modern clinical interest in ibogaine has largely focused on its potential applications for addiction, trauma, and psychological healing, its cultural and spiritual roots remain an essential part of its story.

Ayahuasca

Ayahuasca is a traditional Amazonian plant medicine prepared from the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and companion plants, most commonly Psychotria viridis. For generations, Indigenous peoples throughout the Amazon Basin have utilized ayahuasca within ceremonial, spiritual, and healing traditions as a means of fostering connection, insight, community, and relationship with the natural world.

Within these traditions, ayahuasca is not viewed merely as a substance, but as a teacher and a catalyst for self-exploration, healing, and personal growth. Ceremonies are typically conducted within a structured ritual context guided by experienced facilitators who help participants navigate the experience with intention and respect.

In recent decades, ayahuasca has gained increasing attention from researchers, clinicians, and individuals seeking new approaches to psychological well-being, personal development, and spiritual inquiry. While modern interest often focuses on its potential applications for mental health and emotional healing, its cultural, ceremonial, and Indigenous roots remain an essential part of its story.

For many who engage with ayahuasca, the experience offers an opportunity to explore patterns, beliefs, emotions, and relationships from a new perspective, often fostering a deeper sense of connection to oneself, others, and the larger web of life.
