14-Day Extended Reorganization Recovery

Why Extend Your Stay?

The medicine may create an extraordinary opportunity for change, but meaningful recovery is rarely determined by the medicine alone. Emerging research, together with years of clinical observation, suggests that the period immediately following psychedelic-assisted therapy may represent a unique window of biological and psychological flexibility. During this time, the brain, nervous system, and patterns of daily life may be especially receptive to new experiences.

At Plantas Sagradas, we believe this window deserves just as much attention as the ceremonies themselves.

Rather than returning home immediately after the medicine work concludes, participants have the opportunity to remain in a carefully structured therapeutic environment where insight gradually becomes practice, practice becomes participation, and participation begins evolving into a new way of living.

A Different Kind of Recovery

The Whole Systems Recovery Residency was designed around one simple idea:

Recovery is not simply about removing substances. It is about reorganizing a life.

Over the course of fourteen additional days, participants continue working closely with our clinical team through psychotherapy, nervous system regulation practices, movement, meditation, breathwork, therapeutic massage, community, and intentional reflection. Every aspect of the residency has been thoughtfully designed to help participants strengthen regulation, develop new patterns of participation, and prepare for a successful return home.

Rather than rushing back to everyday life, the residency creates space for meaningful change to begin taking root.

The Journey of Reorganization

Recovery is not something that happens all at once. It unfolds gradually as we begin recalibrating our relationship with ourselves, others, and the world around us. The Whole Systems Recovery Residency is intentionally organized into four progressive phases, each building upon the one before it and supporting the transition from stabilization toward long-term recovery.

Phase I - Regulation Days 1 - 4

"Regulation is first borrowed before it is owned."

The first days following the medicine work are devoted to restoring safety and stability. Through individual psychotherapy, restorative practices, movement, meditation, nourishing meals, and intentional rest, participants allow the nervous system to settle before asking it to reorganize. Recovery begins not by doing more, but by creating the conditions in which regulation can gradually emerge.

Primary Focus

✦ Nervous system regulation

✦ Physical restoration

✦ Individual psychotherapy

✦ Rest and reflection

Phase II - Reorganization

Days 5 - 8

"The question is not simply what was revealed. The deeper question is what is beginning to reorganize."

As regulation becomes more established, participants begin exploring the patterns that have quietly organized life around survival. Through psychotherapy, guided reflection, and intentional practice, insight gradually becomes integrated into daily living. Rather than simply understanding old patterns, participants begin cultivating new ways of relating to themselves, others, and the world around them.

Primary Focus

✦ Pattern recognition

✦ Emotional processing

✦ Psychological flexibility

✦ Recovery planning

Phase III - Participation

Days 9 - 11

"Healing is not something that happens to us. It is something we participate in."

Recovery becomes visible through everyday life. During this phase, participants begin practicing the routines, relationships, and ways of living they hope to carry home. Every healthy decision, meaningful conversation, boundary established, and intentional action becomes another opportunity to strengthen a life increasingly organized around connection rather than survival.

Primary Focus

✦ Healthy routines

✦ Meaningful relationships

✦ Purpose and values

✦ Daily participation

Phase IV - Life Beyond Retreat

Days 12 -14

"Recovery is not the absence of substances or molecules. Recovery is the gradual recalibration of our relationship to ourselves, to others, and to the world until participation becomes more compelling than escape."

The final phase of the residency is devoted to creating continuity. Together with the clinical team, participants develop a personalized plan for continuing recovery beyond Plantas Sagradas, strengthening support systems, sustainable routines, and the practices that will continue supporting long-term health.

Recovery is not viewed as a destination, but as an ongoing process of participation. The goal is not simply to leave feeling different. It is to return home with the confidence, structure, and support to continue becoming the person you have already begun remembering.

Primary Focus

✦ Personalized continuity planning

✦ Long-term therapeutic recommendations

✦ Family and community support

✦ Sustainable daily practices

✦ A personalized recovery roadmap

✦ Continued participation in a meaningful life

Planning Your Journey

Every recovery journey begins with questions.

Whether you're considering a retreat for yourself or someone you love, we believe informed decisions lead to safer and more meaningful experiences. Below are answers to some of the questions we are asked most often about preparing for a Plantas Sagradas retreat, the Whole Systems Recovery Residency, and what to expect throughout the process.

Still don't see your question?

We're always happy to schedule a conversation.

Why would I stay an additional fourteen days after my retreat?

Many people experience profound insight during medicine work, but insight alone does not necessarily create lasting change. The days immediately following ceremony may represent a unique period of increased psychological and biological flexibility. The residency was designed to support this window by providing structure, clinical guidance, and daily opportunities to practice new ways of participating in life before returning home.

Is the residency required?

No. The Whole Systems Recovery Residency is entirely optional. Some participants feel ready to return home after completing their retreat, while others recognize the value of remaining in a structured therapeutic environment as they begin integrating what emerged during their experience.

What does a typical day look like?

Each day is intentionally structured while allowing space for rest and reflection. Participants may engage in individual psychotherapy, integration groups, nervous system regulation practices, movement, meditation, breathwork, restorative massage, community meals, and personal reflection. The schedule is individualized based on each participant's needs and stage of recovery.

Will I continue working with the same clinical team?

Yes. Whenever possible, participants continue working with the clinicians and support staff who accompanied them throughout their retreat. This continuity allows the therapeutic relationship to deepen and provides consistency during an important period of change.

Is this considered residential treatment?

No. The residency is not a residential treatment program or inpatient rehabilitation facility. It is an extended therapeutic stay designed to support integration, skill development, and continued participation in a structured healing environment following completion of your retreat.

Who is the residency designed for?

The residency may be particularly valuable for individuals recovering from substance use disorders, long-standing patterns of emotional suffering, burnout, trauma, or major life transitions. It is also appropriate for participants who simply feel they would benefit from additional time to integrate their experience before returning home.

What is the goal of the residency?

The goal is not simply to maintain the effects of the medicine. It is to begin translating insight into daily practice. Recovery becomes more sustainable when new ways of relating to yourself, your body, your relationships, and your environment are practiced repeatedly within a supportive community.

Can I decide to extend my stay after I arrive?

Sometimes, but we encourage participants to make this decision before their retreat whenever possible. Because the Whole Systems Recovery Residency is intentionally small, availability is limited and spaces are reserved in advance to ensure each participant receives individualized clinical support. While we will always do our best to accommodate requests made during a retreat, we cannot guarantee that space will be available. If you believe you may benefit from continuing your recovery beyond the initial retreat, we encourage you to discuss this with our team during the planning process so we can reserve your place.

How do I know if I should include the Whole Systems Recovery Residency in my treatment plan?

If you are considering it, it is worth having the conversation before you arrive. Many individuals come to Plantas Sagradas after years of struggling with substance use, trauma, or deeply ingrained behavioral patterns. While the medicine may create an extraordinary opportunity for change, lasting recovery often depends on what happens afterward. During your consultation, our clinical team will help you determine whether an extended stay is likely to support your goals and whether it is the right fit for your unique circumstances. Planning ahead also allows us to provide the most comprehensive level of care without the uncertainty of limited availability.

Your Journey Already Began

If you've made it this far, you've already taken an important step.

Recovery rarely begins with the medicine.

It begins with curiosity.

With hope.

With the willingness to imagine that life could be organized around something other than survival.

Whether Plantas Sagradas ultimately becomes part of your journey or not, we hope this page has helped you better understand what meaningful recovery can look like. If you feel called to continue the conversation, we would be honored to learn your story, answer your questions, and explore whether our approach is the right fit for you.

Because every meaningful journey begins long before the ceremony.

It begins with the courage to ask whether another way of living is possible.
